I was really excited to get a galley of this book! The cover alone was a enough to sell me, but the premise, a girl creates a house for lost creatures of all sorts, sealed the deal.
The illustrations in the book are gorgeous and wonderful. It is the kind of book you want to take apart and hang on your wall. (If destroying books wasn’t kind of awful). I liked the varied layouts of the illustrations. It kept the book visually interesting.
The story is sweet and not at all creepy. Her house becomes a bit chaotic with all the creatures so Julia has to find ways to keep order. The creatures managed to have personalities even in such a short book. I definitely recommend this book if you know any younger children (8 and younger). The only downside was the length; it was too short! I wanted more about the Julia and her house and the creatures. Maybe there will be more books to come!
